Volunteer program at Homeavenue Adult Day Health Care

The Volunteer Program

Home Avenue Adult Day Health Care/Community Based Adult Services is enhanced by

the active participation of citizens of the community. To this end, Home Avenue

ADHC/CBAS accepts and encourages the involvement of volunteers at all levels and

within all appropriate program and activities. Home Avenue ADHC Staff are encouraged

to assist in the creation of meaningful and productive roles in which volunteers might

serve and to assist in recruitment of volunteers from the community with authorization

from the Program Director.

Purpose and Scope of Volunteer Policies

The purpose of these polices is to provide overall guidance and direction to

management, staff, and volunteers. These policies are intended for internal

management guidance only. They do not constitute, either implicitly or explicitly, a

binding contractual or personnel agreement. Home Avenue ADHC reserves the right to

change any of these policies and to expect adherence to the changed policy. Unless

specifically stated, these polices apply to all volunteers in all program and projects

undertaken on or on behalf of Home Avenue ADHC/CBAS.

What is a Volunteer?

A “volunteer”: is anyone who chooses to perform services for the Home Avenue

ADHC/CBAS without compensation or expectation of compensation, (beyond

reimbursement for pre-approved specified expenses) and, who performs a task at the

direction of and on behalf of the institution. A “volunteer” must be officially accepted and

enrolled by the institution prior to performance of the task. Volunteers are not

employees of the Home Avenue ADHC/CBAS.

Children

The Program Director is responsible for interviewing children to determine if they are

deemed appropriately fit to participate as a volunteer under the Adult Day Health Care

Setting/Community Based Adult Services Setting. Children volunteers cannot be a

volunteer at Home Avenue ADHC/CBAS unless they are accompanied by their

parent/guardian. Age appropriate tasks must be provided to children. These examples

can include: playing board games with Participants, reading a Participant a book,

assisting the Activity Department with Arts and Crafts, and assisting staff with 

organization. As indicated in the Home Avenue Adult Day Health Care Policy, all

volunteers must receive TB clearance and receive authorization. The Program Director

has the right to terminate the volunteer opportunity at any time for any reason.

High School Students/College Students/Adults

The Program Director is responsible for interviewing volunteers to determine if they

deemed appropriately fit to participate as a volunteer under the Adult Day Health Care

Setting/Community Based Adult Services Setting. All volunteers must receive an

orientation, complete the volunteer worksheet, and authorization to volunteer from the

Program Director. As indicated in the Home Avenue Adult Day Health Care Policy, all

volunteers must receive TB clearance and receive authorization. The Program Director

has the right to terminate the volunteer opportunity at any time for any reason.

Volunteers be aware that Volunteers at Home Avenue Adult Day Health Care are not covered by the company’s workers compensation insurance.
